Harmony through symmetry

Redesign of Osnabrück Castle Garden

In the course of the redesign of the historic Schlossgarten, the city of Osnabrück launched an open space planning competition in 2017. The task was to integrate the Schlossgarten into the overall context of the city. The concept was to lead to a further development and strengthening of the site and to consider the possibilities of perspective planning for the use of the surrounding area. POLA landscape architects from Berlin were able to win the competition with their contribution under the guiding idea of "harmony through symmetry".

Modern reinterpretation of the baroque garden

The landscape architects' design is an attempt at a modern reinterpretation of the baroque garden. The spirit of the garden is to be captured and revived and the functional relationship between the palace terrace and the palace garden restored. For the holistic implementation of the idea, a street furniture concept was developed that fits into the garden's basic character of absolute balance and mathematical harmony.

Benches invite you to linger

The selected benches from the Taragona product range impress with their stable, artistically curved base made of hot-dip galvanised steel and the curved lines of the seat. Colour-coated in DB 703 micaceous iron grey, they show off the sunny yellow of the baroque castle to good effect and invite you to linger. Whether alone or in different rows, they offer a variety of perspectives on the garden and at the same time are part of its symmetry and harmony.

A clean oasis

Cleanliness and order will also be ensured in the redesigned castle garden so that visitors and residents can enjoy the city's green oasis.

Organic overall appearance

For this purpose, litter bins in two different designs have been installed, whose round shape accommodates the organic elements of the water basin. The modern, simple design of the 720 series is complemented by the beautifully shaped longitudinal elements of the 800 series. Both are made of hot-dip galvanised sheet steel and, like the benches, are coated in micaceous iron grey, creating a uniform overall appearance. With or without cigarette chute, they offer a quick and uncomplicated disposal option directly next to the benches or freestanding.

Pleasant effect

The impression of a high-quality cityscape is also created by border railings made of cast aluminium posts and hot-dip galvanised steel connecting rails. They not only provide protection for flower beds and trees, but also enhance the pleasant effect of green spaces and plantings. The homogeneous design blends naturally into the surroundings and its unobtrusive elegance gives the palace and palace garden a stately atmosphere.
